As a writer / performer, I have several TV shows in development, including the adaption of my book, Life as a Unicorn, in development with Universal Studios in the United States and The Forge Entertainment producing in the UK. I am also the writer and creator of Terms & Conditions, a daring 30-minute drama about relationships with South of the River Pictures, Olivia Coleman and Ed Sinclair’s production company. I also write for established TV shows; I wrote a number of episodes for Hollyoaks, and wrote the finale for the BAFTA-nominated Little America for Apple TV+ with Stephen Dunn, which The Hollywood Reporter described as one of the best 10 episodes of television in 2020. I also wrote an episode for The Watch for BBC America, based on the Discworld Novels of Sir Terry Pratchett. I have worked with established writers including Russell T Davies & Emerald Fennell.

My first feature film, LALYA (Film4, BFI, Significant Pictures), produced by Savannah James-Bayly and executive produced by Nina Yang, premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2024, and will be distributed by Curzon Films later this year. I have several other feature films in development. I have written/directed four short films, including Anemone (BBC Films & Film London), Run(a)way Arab, (Peccadillo Pictures & Revry), Victoria Sin, (NOWNESS, Revry), and CLASH (BBC4 Broadcast, BFI, Revry).

My debut book, a memoir about queer intersectionality with 4th Estate (Harper Collins) - Life as a Unicorn: A Journey from Shame to Pride, and Everything In Between - is out in the UK as a Paperback now, and in the US in hardback (Harper 360). It is the winner of a Somerset Maugham Award from the Society of Authors, and won the 2020 Polari First Book Prize. I am also a freelance writer for various publications - I write a quarterly column for Attitude Magazineand contribute regularly to The Guardian and Independent VoicesI have written freelance for the following publications - TIME, Gay Times, The Observer, Newsweek, The i-Paper, i-D Magazine, Dazed, Little White Lies, Gay Star News, Hunger Magazine, CNN, HUCK Magazine, Visual Verse, Zed Books, Saqi Books, the BFI, Cause & Effect Magazine & The Inkling Magazine.

I am an established drag performer in the UK and US - my debut drag solo show, Glamrou: From Quran to Queen, has toured Vault Festival, the Soho Theatre, and has just finished a US tour, including Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles and Joe’s Pub Public Theatre in New York. It has performed a number of sold out runs, and received a glowing 4* review from The Guardian.
